GOOD FRIEND OF TIGNES SPIRIT, PHOTOGRAPHER SAM MELLISH, HAS A NEW EXHIBITION RUNNING IN SHEFFIELD TIL 8th JUNE! www.sammellish.co.uk
Watford Gap by Sam Mellish:
In association with Bank Street Arts Sheffield
New Exhibition Opening Tuesday 14th May
Introducing new work from Sam Mellish as part of “The Motorway Services as a Destination in its Own Right”, a collaborative exhibition hosted by Bank Street Arts, Sheffield.
The Watford Gap series features portraits captured at Watford Gap Services, to honour its status as the first Motorway Services in the UK and fix a snapshot-in-time of the different people seen passing through its doors on a daily basis. The work nods to the style of the late American fashion photographer Richard Avedon, reflecting in particular his work from In The American West – 1979-1984, as the images are composed and shot using an outside studio (although on the premises of the north-bound side of the M1 services rather than the American frontier).
The exhibition features work from other leading British photographers including Si Barber and Simon Carruthers and takes its name from the pamphlet of poetry of the same name by celebrated poet Simon Armitage. www.sammellish.co.uk
Exhibition opens: 14th May – 8th June 2013 – Tues – Sat 10am – 5pm
